Drain Clearance
A drain that runs slowly, gurgles or keeps blocking is telling you something is wrong. Drain clearance deals with the cause, not just the symptom, so your pipes carry water away properly again. Our engineers use high-pressure water jetting, electro-mechanical rodding and CCTV inspection to clear drains of every size, from a single kitchen waste pipe to a full mains run.
At Plumbco, we agree a fixed price before any work starts, so you know the cost from the outset. There are no call-out fees, and we don't charge extra for evenings or weekends, so the price stays the same whenever you need us. When you call, a real engineer answers in under 60 seconds, and once the job is finished, we send you a written report and back the work with our 12-month written guarantee.

Our Drain Clearance Methods
Every slow or blocked drain has a different cause, which is why we choose the method to suit the pipe rather than using one approach for everything. These are the four we rely on most.
Electro-Mechanical Rodding
Rodding suits narrower pipes and blockages in sections we can reach easily. Our engineers feed a flexible steel cable into the drain, fitted with a cutting head that spins at speed. As it turns, it breaks up solid obstructions and scrapes the pipe walls clean, so water can flow freely again.
This method works well on toilet and soil pipe blockages, and on hardened scale inside older lead or iron pipework. It is also the sensible choice when there isn't enough access to jet the line properly.
Root Cutting and Removal
Tree roots find their way into drains through small gaps at joints and cracks, then grow into thick masses that catch everything passing through. Standard jetting or rodding rarely removes them fully, so we use rotating cutters that shear the roots away from the pipe walls. We then flush the line and extract the loose material, so nothing is left behind to form a new blockage.
Where roots keep returning, we'll explain your options plainly, including whether a repair to the damaged section makes more sense than repeat visits.
Pipe Descaling
In hard water areas, which include many parts of Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, minerals slowly build up as a hard layer inside drainage pipes. That layer narrows the pipe, slows the flow and gives grease and debris something to cling to. We use specialist jetting heads to strip the scale away, and where it has set hard, we finish the job with mechanical cutting tools.
The pipe is then left with its full internal diameter, so water moves through it as it was designed to.
Preventative Maintenance Clearance
Waiting for a blockage usually means dealing with it at the worst possible moment. Planned drain clearance visits lower the chance of an emergency, help your drainage system last longer and can reduce insurance costs for commercial premises. We tailor the schedule to your property type, how heavily the drains are used and the age of the system.
Most homes do well with one visit a year. Busy commercial kitchens and food outlets may need a visit every quarter, or even every month, and that is why we plan each schedule around the property rather than a fixed rule.
Residential and Commercial Drain Clearance
The same methods apply whether the drain belongs to a family home or a working business, although the routine around them can look quite different. We'll start with homes, since that is where most of our work is.
Residential Drain Clearance
We clear kitchen and bathroom drains, toilet and soil pipes, shower traps, outside gullies and main sewer connections for houses, flats and shared homes across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. Our engineers work carefully, protect floors and surfaces, and leave the area clean and tidy when they go.
Most homeowners call us about a few familiar problems. A kitchen sink that drains slowly is usually down to grease and food waste. A smelly bathroom drain, a gurgling toilet or water pooling around an outside drain cover all point to a partial blockage, and that will only get worse if it's left.
Commercial Drain Clearance
We also help restaurants, hotels, pubs, schools, offices, shops, care homes and industrial sites. Commercial drain clearance can include planned maintenance with agreed response times, round the clock emergency cover and paperwork that supports health and safety audits.
Food businesses have an extra concern with fats, oils and grease, often shortened to FOG. As part of a clearance programme, we can clean grease traps and put a FOG management routine in place, which helps you meet Environment Agency discharge requirements.

Drain Clearance FAQs
Drain unblocking removes a specific blockage that is stopping water from flowing. Drain clearance is wider than that. It includes unblocking, but also covers cleaning, descaling, root removal and regular maintenance that keeps the whole system in good condition. We offer both, so urgent blockages are dealt with at any hour, and planned clearance keeps your drains running smoothly afterwards.
