Emergency Drain Unblocking
A blocked drain rarely waits for a convenient time, so we've built Plumbco around being ready whenever it happens. Our engineers are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, with no call-out fees and no night-time surcharges, and a real person answers your call in under 60 seconds rather than a call centre reading from a script.
Because our vans carry the parts and equipment needed for most common blockages, we can often clear the problem on the same visit, and you'll always know the price before we start. Every repair comes with a 12-month written guarantee, across our coverage in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

When Is a Blocked Drain an Emergency?
Not every slow-draining sink needs an emergency callout, and we'd never tell you otherwise just to get a job booked in. A basin that empties a little slowly, for instance, will often clear with a simple plunge or a bottle of drain cleaner. What we're talking about here is those warning signs that tell you the blockage has moved beyond a minor inconvenience and into something that needs sorting straight away.
Sewage Coming Back Up into Your Home
Foul water appearing in a toilet, shower or ground-floor drain points to a serious blockage further down the system, and it's a health risk that shouldn't wait.
More Than One Drain Acting Up at Once
When your kitchen sink, bathroom and toilet struggle to drain together, the blockage is unlikely to sit in one pipe. It's more likely somewhere in a shared section of your drainage.
A Persistent Bad Smell from a Drain or Outside Your Property
This usually means waste is sitting somewhere it shouldn't, often signalling a blockage building before it causes a full backup inside your home.
Standing Water Around an Outside Drain Cover
If you notice water pooling near a manhole or inspection chamber that doesn't usually hold water, that's a clear sign the blockage sits further along the network.
Water Actually Entering Your Property
If a blocked drain is starting to flood any part of your home or business, that's always an emergency, and it's worth calling us immediately rather than trying to manage it yourself.
Drains That Back Up Every Time It Rains
If heavy rain reliably sends water back up through an outside gully or an internal drain, that points to a blockage further along the network rather than anything you can clear yourself.
What Usually Causes an Emergency Blockage
Understanding why a drain has blocked helps explain why it happened and, just as importantly, how to stop it happening again.
- Grease, Fat and Oil: This is the most common cause of blocked drains in UK homes. Fat poured down a sink cools and hardens inside the pipe, gradually narrowing it until waste can no longer pass through freely, especially in colder weather.
- Tree Roots: Roots naturally seek out moisture, and even a small crack in an older clay or concrete pipe can let them in. Once inside, they keep growing and often cause the same blockage to return.
- Wipes, Sanitary Products and Other Items That Shouldn't Be Flushed: These don't break down in water the way toilet paper does, and they tend to catch on bends and joints, where they gradually build up until the pipe becomes fully blocked and water can't pass through.
- Pipe Damage or Movement: In older properties especially, ground movement or general wear can shift or crack sections of drainage pipe. That damage creates a narrow point where waste collects, often causing the same blockage to keep returning at that spot.
- Scale from Hard Water: In areas with harder water, mineral deposits build up gradually on the inside of pipes. On their own they rarely cause a full blockage, but combined with grease or debris they can tip a slow drain into a blocked one.
- Poor Pipe Gradient or Design: Some older or badly laid pipework doesn't fall away steeply enough to carry waste along properly. Water and debris move too slowly, settle inside the pipe and gradually build into a blockage, even without any grease or damage involved.
Fixed Pricing, No Surprises
We know that calling an emergency plumber can feel like handing over a blank cheque, and that's exactly the worry we want to remove. Once one of our engineers has assessed the blockage, you'll receive a fixed price before any work goes ahead. That price won't change partway through the job, and it's the same whether you're calling at 3pm on a Tuesday or 3am on a Sunday.
There are no call-out charges, no night-time premiums and no weekend markups added to the bill.
